K-Pop star Kang Daniel has set a new record for the fastest time to gain one million followers on Instagram. He only joined the social media platform on New Year’s Day.
Quickly gaining one million fans, Kang broke the record of Pope Francis who reached 1 million in 12 hours following the debut of his 2016 verified Vatican Media channel ‘franciscus’.
The first post of Kang was a selfie with the caption ‘HELLO’ and it was posted on January 1 at 10pm PST (Pacific Standard Time) before the channel hit 1 million followers on 2 January at 09:36 a.m. PST, achieving the new record in 11 hours 36 minutes.
The South Korean star rose to fame as part of the group Wanna One, a boy band composed of 11 members that emerged from South Korean TV talent show Produce 101. The group is now disbanding with farewell concerts scheduled for the end of January.
Produce 101 is a talent/survival that features contestants from South Korea, as well as Japanese and Chinese performers.
