On January 22, Epik High’s rapper-songwriter Tablo congratulated singer Lee So-ra for the success of her recently released single, “Song Request” that topped iTunes charts in 44 countries, including Hong Kong, Mexico, Brazil and Sweden. The song, featuring BTS’ Suga, was co-written by Tablo.
Tablo also announced that his group is currently working on a new album. This will be Epik High’s first work since their ninth studio album, “We’ve Done Something Wonderful”, which was released in 2017.
In December 2018, Forbes wrote that Epik High is in a unique position when it comes to the Korean music industry. It has been over a decade and a half since the trio of Tablo (Daniel Lee), Mithra Jin (Choi Jin) and DJ Tukutz (Kim Jeong-sik) started as a hip-hop crew and since then they have remained consistently one of the most impactful alt hip-hop presences in the South Korean music world. The group has become part of the underground hip-hop scene and after leaving Woollim Entertainment, they founded Map The Soul in 2009, then joined YG Entertainment in 2012.
According to Forbes, Epik High has successfully maneuvered through these years carving out a distinct identity for themselves while embracing their place as a K-pop adjacent act.
